Mad at God?

Mad at God

So there you are arms folded, sweat beading up on your forehead and red in the face. You are yelling things like; “why me again, what did I do to deserve…?” Obviously you are mad, but at what or who?

You are fired from your job for being late too many times. You are driving a little too fast in the rain and hit another car. Your wife comes home and tells you she is tired of your not helping around the home and she wants a divorce. Your son has just discovered your hidden stash of dirty magazines in the basement. Your daughter has come across an email from a website that is all about having affairs. Your power has just been turned off for failing to pay the bill. You just lost a lot of money and your business cannot continue. You just stepped on the scale at the gym and you have gained weight. You just got off the phone with your boss who for 15 minutes tore into you and called you every name in the book and created some new ones, all because you forgot to sign a contract.

The above list can go on and on. We all have our share of “bad days” or “bad things” that happen to and around us. So let me ask again: you are mad, but at who or what?

Let me share a little “secret” with you – God already knows if you are mad at Him! He knows our thoughts – we have no secrets that He does not know.

  • Psalm 44:21 (The Message) Wouldn’t God have figured this out?  We can’t hide things from him.
  • Psalm 139:1-4 (NIV) O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

Now with all of this being said, let me get to the real issue at hand, you. Those 9 scenarios at the top are very real. Each of those has most likely happened to someone in the world. Possibly even you. I am sure that some of those have happened and people have blamed or been angry at God for it happening. Only thing is, it is not His fault. He did not make you lazy, forgetful, dangerous, etc. YOU and I make decisions each day. Some of these are good and some are not. Our choices, our decisions, we are in “control.” God is not leading you around like a puppet on strings making you do or not do something. You are leading yourself around with the choices you make every day. I want you to be honest with yourself, go stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself. Look at who you have become. Ask God to reveal your character flaws and begin to make positive changes and strive to be more Christ like. Quit blaming Him and begin taking responsibility for your actions.

So if you are mad at God – tell Him and move on. You are doing no good holding onto resentment towards Him, for things He did not do. And the more garbage you are holding onto, you might miss the things that God is either doing or wants to do in your life.
