Make a commitment not a resolution

Happy 2010!

Some of you already know this about me: I do not like the word “resolutions.” People use this word a lot this time of year and with good intention, but usually fall short – way short at times. Here is a thought for you: between 88%-92% of resolutions “made” fail.

Why does this happen? Again it is done with good intentions, but people lack follow through and real commitment. Commitment is a strong word to be used. One of its definitions is; a pledge to do. Resolution has for one of its definitions; a course of action decided on. I don’t know about you, but “a pledge to do,” helps you “commit” to starting a “to do” list. It sets the tone of what you want to do with a checklist to get things accomplished.
I realize that you need to be able to “follow through” on this to do list – so make sure you post it in a place you will see it every day – multiple times. Maybe on the refrigerator, inside a kitchen cabinet or on your bathroom mirror, make sure it is visible! Otherwise you may fall to “out of sight..Out of mind,” you do not want this; if you do this you will fall into that 88%-92%.

So instead of making resolutions, make 2010 a real new year for you and make some commitments.
