Stepping on Toes

I struggled a bit with this blog. I mean after all its going to touch on God, politics and personal views / beliefs. Pretty much bomb building 101 isn’t it? We are 26 days away from an election that just seems full of doom and gloom. Let’s start with it is 2020, we all know that this year has been very unkind to mankind. It has been a year full of presidential candidate selections, wondering about VP selections, local and state political signs and more. Then of course the pandemic and let’s just be honest the weather across the country and natural disasters has been just plain crazy!

It’s full on political season now and days are ticking away and before you know it, it will be time to vote. Which category will you fall in? Vote as your family has always done by choosing all one party? Will you decide based on coin flips? How about by doing your own research and not relying on the media, after all the media is not what it once used to be. Gone are the days of integrity and common sense. Or Christians, will you do what makes the most sense – seek Him and His will for leadership of this country? I will come back to this question…

I guess another question will be how many of you will still have friends after the election? How many of my Christian friends will have burned bridges and instead of being God honoring and will have gone down the path of name calling, shaming, dragging others through the mud – all in favor of their choice for an office? Will you still have friends?

I see quite a few people on social media that are Christians, some are even Christian – politicians, and they are busy calling names, putting people down, etc. THIS behavior is not Godly! You are selling out to the world and joining in the political zoo and chaos of it all.

I have been told by some that they are just making others “aware” or revealing their dark sides. Interesting, because while you are calling them stupid, ignorant, racist and so on you are looking…. well go look in the mirror and say those things and let me know what you think.

Yep, our political choices are human and some make mistakes. They may even lie, cheat and steal or have affairs. They may mislead, abuse their power and smile while doing it. None of this gives us reason to call them names or wish them ill. Yet many, too many, Christians are taking part in this. What they should consider DOING is … PRAY

Getting back to my question earlier, are you seeking Him and His will for this country or are you allowing the media and your friends to tell you who to vote for?

Seriously, what are you doing!? I watch Christian friends share, quote, repeat negative junk. How about instead of tearing others down for a candidate to win, maybe you spend more time sharing the positives of who you support. Better yet – pray for those that are running – all of them! Why you ask?

Honestly, because humans are very unkind, Christians, we can be unkind. These men and women that are running for offices across the country are catching so much verbal abuse. Yes, I get it, they chose to run for office. But let me share this with you – many of you spend hours complaining about political offices, yet you do nothing about it. These people are attempting to do something. So they do not need the verbal assaults, aggravations and nonsense as well – their job is already hard!

Do you call yourself a Christian? Then I suggest this – don’t just walk the walk and talk the talk. BE a follower of Christ. DO what He has commanded us: John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Your taking the time to pray, seek Him for leadership of this country will go so much further than accusations, name calling and the like.

Yep, I stepped on toes…. and you know what? I don’t feel bad. I am being honest, real and clear. The bible is clear on how we are to treat one another. If you are reading this and are feeling angry or offended – please don’t start sending me your angry emails. Instead I suggest you go to Him and ask Him why you feel the way you feel.

Thanks for stopping by the fire,

Pastor Dennis
