Called to lead, not to run and follow, at least I know that is the plan for me. So much turbulence these days in social media and the media and its very sad. It’s not just election stuff either. Pandemic, sports, health systems, taxes and sure politics all have become stressors for so many. And it’s causing so much divide. People are now beginning to take their “toys’ aka social media accounts and running to a different playground. It’s happening for a variety of reasons; social platforms are limiting / censoring posts, supposedly fact checking, etc. then you have those that must be right and “be heard” but cannot take criticism and their feelings are hurt – over social media!
I almost became one of those followers. Not over the things I mentioned, but I thought omg my friends are running to another place. I even opened an account, uggh! That is when I reminded myself, I am not called to follow these people, in fact in some ways I feel I am supposed to be leading them. Leading them to the only ONE that really matters, my God. This life is so incredibly short to be name calling, bullying, crying, whining, etc. over meaningless stuff. Yes, the categories I mentioned have “value” in our lives, but how we as a human race are responding to each other is causing more damage than good. So, I am choosing to stay where I am. I may “lose” a few or many people – I don’t really know. But until facebook goes the way of myspace, this is where you can find me. I will continue to challenge you, make you think, laugh or maybe even cry at times. I will continue to post the serious and not so serious. You may find yourself in a disagreement with me or I with you, but let’s disagree out of love and not become enemies.
One last thing, don’t believe what you hear nor read in social media from everyone. These days it seems everyone has a “source.” Do your own research. It’s no different than my sharing scripture or thoughts about God – don’t believe me, look it up in the bible for yourself. Want to talk, pray, have some coffee, banter about the best church or leadership guru? I am here and I will be playing in this sandbox leaving the bridge open for those that are running…
Thanks for stopping by the fire,
Pastor Dennis
