Don’t Let the Storm Drown Out His Voice

The sea was roaring.

Waves clawed at the boat and wind sliced through the night like daggers. The disciples gripped wood and fear in equal measure—but one dared to listen. In the chaos, Peter heard a voice calling him to step out of safety and into surrender. It wasn’t logical. It wasn’t safe. It certainly wasn’t “expect the worst, hope for the best.”

That mantra—the world’s version of “faith”—offers no anchor. It prepares us to sink with dignity, not walk in confidence.

Peter didn’t expect the worst. He expected Jesus.

And that’s the pivot point of every storm. When we tune our ears to the raging sea instead of the still, steady voice of God, we go under. We drown—not in water, but in doubt.

Jesus had already declared, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” But how often do we let those words get swept away by the hurricane of our own worries and expectations?

The truth is, hope anchored in worst-case-scenario living isn’t biblical. God doesn’t ask us to brace for impact; He invites us to rise above it.

So here’s the challenge: when the waves of uncertainty rise, don’t settle for survival mode. Don’t let cultural clichés mute divine invitation. Instead, listen for the whisper that cuts through the wind, the one that says, “Come.”

Faith isn’t about walking blindly—it’s about walking toward the Voice.

Thanks for stopping by the fire,
